Haverfordwest Town

Information on the Town of Haverfordwest

With the air of a typical small country market town, the centre of Haverfordwest is dominated by the Western Cleddau river that runs through the centre and the castle that towers above it.

It is the county town of Pembrokeshire but as well as being the county’s administrative centre, Haverfordwest has a great variety of shops in the town and the outlying retail parks.

Most bus services radiate to the whole of Pembrokeshire and it also has a railway station connecting it to the rest of Wales and beyond.

Haverfordwest castle was built about 1120. Situated within the Castle wall and previously the old prison governor’s house is the town museum. It houses exhibitions of art and local history and has artefacts relating to the town’s past.

In a lovely setting on the west bank of the river and only a short walk from the town are the ruins of an Augustinian Priory that have recently been excavated and repaired.

Haverfordwest has something for everyone from woodland walks and activities on the river to a range of swimming and fitness activities at the popular Leisure centre. Children of all ages can be entertained at the West Wales Karting Centre, the Hangar 5 trampoline park, Merlin’s Magic Indoor soft play centres, or at the outdoor skate park.

Only a short drive away visit Scolton Manor Country Park and Picton Castle Gardens or the abundance of wonderful beaches that Pembrokeshire has to offer.

The weekly Farmer’s Market held at the Riverside shopping centre is definitely worth a visit.
